Is my drive actually dead?

Featured Replies

Good morning, Good afternoon & Good evening all.

Could one of you wizards have a look at my drives and tell me if disk 3 is actually dead or if the config has messed up again?  Tower Diag and Smart report attached.

Was thinking of changing from 4TB drives to 14TB drives as they seem the sweet spot on bang for buck now. Plus some of these drives are probably approaching 10 years old.

It's logged as a disk problem, run an extended SMART test.

Not obvious.   I would suggest running the extended SMART test on the drive and if that passes it is probably OK to continue using it, and if it fails then it should be replaced.

It typically takes something like 1.5 hours per TB.   Note also that progress only updates at 10% intervals.

Its saying without Error. Whats my next move? I really dont want to loose any data on that drive.

SMART test passed, so the disk is OK for now, the emulated disk was mounting, assuming contents look correct, you can rebuild on top, then keep monitoring, but any more errors in the near future I would consider replacing that disk.
