Unraid setup with single SSD and single HDD

Featured Replies

Hello guys!

Now I have Unraid 6.12.14 with single 2 Tb SSD in array for Data and Docker containers and 2 Tb HDD unassigned device for weekly backup.

I like silent operation and this setup is fully silent except HDD wake up for 15 minutes once per week.

I know that in Unraid 7 there is possible to make ZFS and BTRFS pools with no drives in array.

I need an advice from experienced users:

1) Is it good idea to change current configuration to pool for single SSD and no array drives?

2) Which file system will be better for single SSD in pool - ZFS or BTRFS?

3) Best way (tools) to format SSD to new FS and move all my Data and docker containers.

Thx in advance for all the help!

during the v7 beta testing that went on for a good 5ish month. I have had no issue runnign a pool only configuration. no disk array setup.

1.) MAKE BACKUPS! you may need to format the disk to different file systems. and update any pathing from other setting to fit the new scheme...

*disable any autorun, disable dockers, disable vms, disable LXC... beforehand

Web UI > Main > Flash> flash backup

2) given the # of current disk I would recommend btrfs if ditching the array. Pool ZFS only begin to make sence using 3 disk of simalr size in a zfs raidz1 setup...

3) usb boot ubuntu mate run disk to delete and clear. I have had hard issue using unriads preclear plugins that don't make sense here if ditching the array
