Install and Configure Mail and SSMTP Errors

Recommended Posts

When attempting to follow this instructions posted on the Configuration Tutorial, I get the following error when trying to install and configure the Mail and SSMTP package via unmenu:

"(MD5 of existing downloaded file NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.)"

This appears when clicking the "Download ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz" button.

Thanks for the help.

I made some slight mods to my /boot/packages/mail-ssmtp-unmenu-package.conf to download and install v2.64 obtained from here: http://packages.debian.org/source/squeeze/ssmtp.

I commented out the lines referencing v2.62 and replaced them with 2.64 directly below where necessary, updated the md5 checksum, and added an additional step to rename the ssmtp dir to conform to that required by the installation script.

It works great for me, but of course, use at your own risk.

I've replaced the ssmtp package in unMENU with this one.  Many thanks.  A check for updates should download it.    Anybody with the older 2.62 package can delete it.

Thanks Joe!  I was able to get this one to install but I noticed another error with mymain.  Any thoughts on what I need to do?

You need do nothing.

The myMain_local.conf is meant to be modified by you, and apparently has been.  The replacement is in /tmp for you do compare and determine if there is anything you need to migrate from your modified version to it.

If everything is working, there is nothing for you to do.  (Your modified version is guaranteed to have a different checksum...)

If you have an older version, and have made no changes, you may simply move the new version into place.

Thanks Joe!  I don't recall making any changes but who knows!  I know I replaced the picture files with pics of my server and drive locations but this wouldn't change the .conf file.

Sorry for such a newbie question but I'm still having problems. I've downloaded the above file.

Where do I put it and what do I do to get the emailing function to work.

Any help appreciated.

I'm getting the exact same error -- as you can see in the attached file.

Using the latest version of UnMenu ... with the replacement .conf file mentioned earlier in this thread.

I'm at a loss as to how to get SSMTP to install correctly.

[it's also not at all clear exactly what the Configuration Variables need to be -- but that's a lot easier to "play" (i.e. experiment) with after the package actually gets loaded.

Well, did the glibc file download?  Or does it have an error message just saying it could not get the file.

The symptoms are that the downloaded file does not match the expected checksum.

I do see that glibc has in fact d/led..
