But why only on 7.0+. I just froze the gui after 18 minutes of up time. The rest of the system is working. Dockers are up etc. The dashboard and gui are unresponsive.
March 1, 20251 yr Community Expert Enable the syslog server and post that after it happens again, like mentioned, the regular syslog after a rebuilt won't have anything to see.

March 2, 20251 yr Community Expert Could be a hardware issue, typically there's nothing logged in those cases. That would be a good palce to start, if you have multiple RAM sticks, you cam also try using the server with just one pair, if the same try with the other one, that will basically rule out bad RAM.
March 2, 20251 yr I'm having a similar issue and it's bizarre. Sometimes every night, sometimes it's once a week, but it's always around 4 AM. System has shut off but not powered down, so the fans are still running. I have to yank the power cord in order to turn it off. Local syslog shows nothing, and I've RMA'd the entire server so the only remaining pieces that aren't new are the USB drive and storage drives. Does unRAID notify for an unclean shutdown if there are no parity disks? Haven't gotten the message but figured it was because I only have a pool. Edited March 2, 20251 yr by rocky123xo

I'm having similar issues, mine are just way more frequent after updating to 7.0.0. I just saw 7.0.1 release, with a patch note that there was a potential nchan memory leakage problem, so I mirrored my syslog to the USB and saw I the last call before my server crashed was regarding the nchan issue. Maybe it's triggerede by an automation on your server, running around 4:00, so i'd recommend you update to 7.0.1 and mirror your syslog to see if it still happens and what may have caused it.

I know it's annoying, but I'd try swapping the USB drive to rule that out. Failing USB drives can cause weird crashing issues
March 2, 20251 yr Author In case anyone finds this later: in the end it seems to have been a hardware issue. I returned my server and obtained a new one, and the crashes stopped. Not sure what the specific hardware issue was, but it's been going strong for about 3 weeks now with no crashes.
March 5, 20251 yr It just doesn't make sense to be a hardware issue only on 7.0.0+. I am going to swap the cpu to test but I'm not that hopeful. Mine also seems to always be around 4am.

Mine also seems to always be around 4am. I've narrowed it down a bit... doesn't crash when booted into safe mode and with the array disabled. Going on vacation but I'll be able to test more when I get back!
March 7, 20251 yr Any task scheduled for that time (backing up appdata)? In terms of plugins being possible to cause, I'd try uninstalling i87 and the ugreen LED. But, does it happen on 7.0.1 if you're in safe mode?
March 8, 20251 yr When I try to boot in safe mode I cannot get the gui. Also I do not have any scheduled tasks running at that time that I know of. I tried yesterday to disable all my dockers except for plex and it still happened around 513 am
March 9, 20251 yr It's 100% a plugin. I've had them disabled since I left for a trip and absolutely no problems. Everything else is running normally. I'll narrow down the exact plug-in and submit a bug report in a couple weeks when I'm home.
March 10, 20251 yr I found my issue. I scoured my cron jobs in the system files and I found that the "Tips and Tweaks" plugin had created a cron job to turn on/off turbo boost on my CPU. I removed the cron jobs from the file and removed the plugin. I have been up for 2 days which is a new record.
March 21, 20251 yr I've narrowed it down to the Plex (lscr.io/linuxserver/plex) docker container. Whether it's interaction with a plugin (possibly due to trying to use my AMD APU for transcoding) or otherwise, the issue does not occur when the container isn't running overnight, and occurs when it is...

Interesting - what do the plex logs say before it crashes?

Go to appdata/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs and look for Plex Media Server.log. Scroll down to find the approximate time of the crash and look for a gap in the logs (when the server was down).

I'm not so sure this is even the time the server crashed... https://paste.3e9.dev/?b2b28d1d45e3f0af#z3RK51QGppabZFJrL32Ck6R2hUueAbCtowRLPcpMp7M I've swapped to a different Docker image and I'll report back if the issue is resolved. Bizarre.
March 26, 20251 yr Different container didn't help... but disabling healthchecks on the container and changing the networking mode from host to bridge and manually adding the ports seems to have done the trick!
