January 16, 20251 yr Hi folks. This may not be related to Unraid OS 7, however I am seeing some strange GPU activity when using Handbrake. On my N305 hardware I have hardware encoding configured in Handbrake and this was working fine last year. But now when I try to use QSV encoding, my GPU activity on the Unraid Dashboard is showing moderate GPU power draw (about 1 - 5w) but no 3D render or video load. There is heavy CPU usage during QSV encoding and there is no icon next to active apps. When using Frigate, Plex or ErsatzTV it shows the app icon in Active Apps and I can see render activity. I have reinstalled Handbrake which did not change anything. I also stopped all apps and entered the commands modprobe -r i915 and modprobe i915 after which Unraid does show 3d render load and video load during Handbrake encoding, but I'm still not sure it's working properly as there is still no active app icon, and CPU usage is still very high and the overall encoding time remains the same. Would be interested if anyone has any ideas I can try. Thanks! Edited January 17, 20251 yr by CelestialTeaPot Correct wattage draw
January 17, 20251 yr This reply won't be very helpful, but I came here to say that I've seen the same thing. I did *not* have Handbrake QSV installed/working previously, but I just built an Alder Lake i9-based system and can't seem to get GPU encoding working no matter what I do. I've spent hours researching on these forums and tried everything -- different versions of device additions into Docker (/dev/dri, etc.), 'lowpower=0' switches in Handbrake...and nothing seems to work. I should state that I'm still on 6.12.14. Like CelestialTeaPot, I too do not see Handbrake as an app icon in Active Apps (though I do see my Frigate icon consistently...which I should). Any thoughts or help would be most appreciated!
