Is this HDD dead/dying

Featured Replies

Had a 4tb Ironwolf drive drop from array (contents emulated). Ran short SMART test and it passed, however there looked to be a lot of errors and after successful array rebuild to the same drive and successful parity check more errors were noted and sectors relocated.  Attached is diagnostic.

Any help/advice appreciated.

That disk looks as if it is probably on its last legs and should be replaced.   However if you want to make sure run the extended SMART test - the short one is only meaningful if it fails.

Replace. Too many reallocated, and quite a few pending as well.

Makes me wonder about the health of your other disks. Post diagnostics if you want us to look at them too.

Already running extended test. It has been stuck on 10% complete since last night (drive spindown disable (never))

Just started short tests on other drives in array (2 more in pool, 1 parity). Will upload diagnostic when complete.

Thanks all so far!

Extended test will take many hours but since it is only 4TB it should have progressed beyond 10% overnight.

Diagnostics will contain SMART for all attached disks. No need to post them separately.

Other array disks look OK.

Disk1 has only

  9 Power_On_Hours -O--CK 089 089 000 - 10106

so should be under warranty.

Do you have a spare disk you can rebuild to?

Should have asked for diagnostics with the array started in normal mode. Some things can't be checked with the array stopped or in maintenance mode.

Will do, when I started the array last time it took forever to mount the disk that is causing issues and then once it did the errors started immediately. Started array to get diag. and it is again taking a while to mount disks. Actually it just started and disk 1 is now "unmountable" with 1024 errors.
