January 18, 20251 yr I am hoping someone can help. I have had a drive fail (i think) it became disabled. I tried removing it and restarting the array but it looks like I am getting a load of errors on the other drives? I have changed all the sata cables and checked all the power cables which seem fine. Before I try to start the array everything seems line and no errors in the logs. When I start the array I get lots of errors on ata6.00 and ata3.00, neither are the drive which originally became disabled. They are both the same type of drive, ex server drives which I have had for about 3 months and up until now have run fine. I would appreciate if someone can take a look. January 19, 20251 yr Community Expert Check/replace cables for parity and disk4 and post new diags after array start.
January 20, 20251 yr Author Done. Checked all cables. Disk 3 looks like it has failed. Initially it was saying the data was emulated and now it just says Not Installed. I don't have a replacement drive so ideally I just want to remove that drive from the array (ideally without loosing the data). Hers the diags: tower-diagnostics-20250120-1003.zip
January 20, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution Still seeing ata errors, make sure you actually replace the cables, power and SATA.
January 20, 20251 yr Author I had some unused cables which I swapped in. I've just ordered new power and data so will send new diagnostics once they are in.
January 21, 20251 yr Author New cables are in and everything looks like it has started apart from Disk 3 which is noted as Not Installed, contents emulated. New diagnostics attached. Thank you tower-diagnostics-20250121-1520.zip
January 21, 20251 yr Community Expert No more disk errors so far, emulated disk3 is mounting, assuming contents look correct, since it's empty, you can rebuild, I suspect the unassigned 4TG WD disk was old disk3?
January 22, 20251 yr Author Looks like everything is back up and running. Ran the rebuilt and the parity check and all seems back to normal. I appreciate your guidance with the diagnostics, I've sent you some beer money.
