April 8, 201214 yr I told my router to map a static ip on my tower server to a specific ip instead of letting dhcp decide..... ever since then i cannot access http:\\tower from any browser, but i can access the shares via \\tower in win 7. To get access to the gui i have to use 192.168.0.3, but not all the links are friendly that way. root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# less /var/log/syslog | grep dhcp Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: /sbin/dhcpcd -t 10 -h Tower eth0 Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1242]: version 5.2.7 starting Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1242]: forked to background, child pid 1243 Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1243]: eth0: broadcasting for a lease Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1243]: eth0: offered 192.168.0.3 from 192.168.0.1 Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1243]: eth0: acknowledged 192.168.0.3 from 192.168.0.1 Apr 8 13:52:14 Tower dhcpcd[1243]: eth0: checking for 192.168.0.3 Apr 8 13:52:19 Tower dhcpcd[1243]: eth0: leased 192.168.0.3 for 86340 seconds I am not sure what to look for, both FF and IE try and find "tower" out on the internet instead of resolving it locally.... Suggestions? Thanks Myk PS - this is only happening on my laptop - my desktop "tower" can be used just fine in my FF browser....
April 8, 201214 yr I have had that happen. The last time it happened to me, it was my masterbrowser could not see the server. I would just add "tower" with the static IP to your hosts file.
April 8, 201214 yr Author I was thinking of that, but that would defeat the purpose when I visit parents I take the server with me, and their network is setup diff than mine, but when I was there last week, I could still access as "tower" even tho it was a completely different network ip setup - ex 192.168.1.x. Mom has a boxee with a 3tb usb drive that holds what she likes to watch of my collection.... still trying to figure this out, I have even shutdown the laptop several times - if I run a cmd window and try to ping tower, it gets a real ip off the inet instead of my 192.168.0.3 that is static assigned..... Myk
April 9, 201214 yr Author i went back and let it auto assign ip again, and everything is working as it should again...... will look into it again in the future after I get done dealing with this disk failure last night.... Myk
