April 9, 201214 yr disk1 (sdb) and disk3 (sdd) are giving errors. Post SMART reports for those disks.
April 10, 201214 yr Author S.M.A.R.T. Logs attached. thanks...I think i may have been told i have possible problems with these 2 drives in the past then a senior member i think it was Joe L. said that to him the drives seemed ok but perhaps it was something else(not hardware but software). I believe i have already tried replacing the cables maybe ill try that again just incase... smartsdb.txt smartsdd.txt
April 10, 201214 yr You're running a 5.x unRaid version correct? What is the owner:group of the file you have problems with? What are the permissions? (do a ls -l beginningfilename* in the folder directory from a telnet session) Odds are, the file is not nobody:users for owner:group If that is the case, do a chown nobody:users filename* Then see if your HTPC still has "permission" issues
April 10, 201214 yr Author Hello, Yes i am using UnRaid V 5.0beta6a...dont yell at me but im having difficutly changing the directory in telnet lol...my servers name is Whoshouse the Share is My Movies the Folder within that is Immortals...
April 11, 201214 yr Both SMART reports show a pending sector and read failures at 60%. Both drives having a problem at the same location points to something they ave in common causing the errors. Do they share an interfaces card? The pending sectors eventually need to be resolved by rebuilding the drives one at a time.
April 11, 201214 yr Author root@Whoshouse:~# ls -l total 12 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Mar 5 2011 initconfig -> /usr/local/sbin/initconfi g* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 171 Mar 5 2011 mdcmd* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 7565 Mar 5 2011 mkmbr* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Mar 5 2011 powerdown -> /usr/local/sbin/powerdown lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Mar 5 2011 samba -> /etc/rc.d/rc.samba* root@Whoshouse:~# Is that what you are looking for? @dgaschk they are not on an interface card all plugged directly to Mobo. how do i go about rebuilding them?
April 13, 201214 yr Author please anyone have any ideas? i havent touched it since..i actually have it turned off right now...
April 13, 201214 yr Author alright im pretty sure i did it right lol ran first smartctl -d ata -tshort /dev/sdx then ran smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sdx >/boot/smart.txt of course changing the x to the appropriate letter lol...let me know if i did it wrong..thanks again for taking the time! short_smart_sdb.txt short_smart_sdd.txt
April 13, 201214 yr It is really odd that both drives keep failing at the exact same location. I would stop the array and run a long test on each drive and post new reports.
April 14, 201214 yr Author ok ill do that thanks i use this one correct? smartctl -d ata -tlong /dev/sda and also i can obtain the report without starting the array ?
April 14, 201214 yr Yes. You can even run the long test with the array started but if unRAID spins the drives down the test will abort.
April 15, 201214 yr Author here are the long smart test results Long_smart_sdd.txt Long_smart_sdb.txt
April 18, 201214 yr Failed at the same location... April 18, 201214 yr Author thats pretty strange to have them both fail at same location right? lol any ideas what to do?
April 18, 201214 yr I hope that you have backups of the data on those drives. Every other disk must be read successfully in order to rebuild a disk. There are 2 drives that cannot be read and no way to rebuild either of them. Copy data off of those two disks.
April 19, 201214 yr Author i will start to back them up i dont have that much space available. i need more hdds. once i back them up then what? are they just garbage?
April 19, 201214 yr Garbage. Thinking about the LBA failure...that is the outside/(inside?) of the platter so...maybe not so surprising.
April 19, 201214 yr Author currently i am transfering data from those 2 disk. i have a 3tb seagate on the way. i have a 1tb wd ready to add to array...whats the best way to go about this? thanks
