issues Post 7.0 install... network settings to blame?

Featured Replies

Prior to 4pm yesterday my system has been rock solid (would run 3+ months no issue) since it has been running so long and I had an HBA to add, I figured I would do the 7.0 update finally. so I checked to make sure all plugins and docker containers were up to date, then went forward with the update. there was a lot of issues after the install that seemed to be related to the USB flash drive having corrupt files. after 24hrs of dealing with that the system will be "stable" until its not. I was not able to catch the text that showed up on the main screen of the server, however it had to do with port 0 - eth0 enabling and disabling or eth0 being renamed. I was looking to see if someone can look over the images to let me know if there is something I do not have set right with the network settings (br0 / bridge / host) also had some issues come up when starting and stopping VMs that really upset Unraid as well... errors came quick, could not get a screen shot. but once that happened my Docker Vdisk started to balloon to the point that the server was mostly unresponsive. I was able to send reboot command via command line, but it never happened.

I have a couple pics of my docker / VM info as well as the last set of errors that popped up right before it locked up. sorry I do not have more at the moment. I need to look into what info could help and will get that setup for the next time it happens.

Thank you!

Reboot and one of my returning issues showed its face... while the server is still up and running... I dont expect it to for too long.

Got to work and just logged in to check on the server, parity check is basically at a halt. I canceled it as it was showing over 140 days to complete with no disk activity. can also see some of the info for "docker0" regarding ports.

Some more messages about network related errors?. what is odd it this only shows up when I am trying to do network heavy workloads (like backing up data from this unraid server to my backup box)

Unraid driver is crashing, this is almost always a hardware issue, start by running metest, and since you have an i9-13900K, it could also be the Intel 13/14 gen issue.

interesting. once I started having all the issues, I put the original hardware back in and nothing changed. (original HBA) I will check memtest. I did have issues quite some time ago with the CPU... (6 months back) it would crash as soon as an hour, to maybe running only a couple days, was random. however it was a completely different scenario. was basically a dead box when it would crash. since doing the micro code update, has been perfect. it was not until I did the update to 7 that everything changed. I was able to run the server for 3+ months and not need a reboot. now I cant get it to run a few hrs without all these odd issues that eventually cripple the server. Is there a way to tell if a flash drive is bad? The unraid OS said it was corrupt. after formatting and restoring files, it has gotten better, but makes me wonder if this can potentially be a USB flash drive issue? just throwing things out there in case. just having a hard time with this is all. thanks for looking.

Flash drive issues are typically logged, but you can try replacing it.

Another 2 lock ups back to back... I did not get to replace the flash drive since I just woke up and need to run to work. but I am going to revert back to 6.12 OS... that is quick enough

So just to update, have been on 6.12 for over 5 hrs and there are no issues... before I was not able to run more then 2 hrs on 7.0. will see if its still good by the time I get home in the AM.

Well, ended up getting a new USB, doing a fresh install of 7.0 and restored my config folder (hopefully there is nothing wrong there) and seemed to be good for almost 24hrs.. then it locked up back-to back-to back-to back... just could not do anything. finally was able to get int and download data. odd thing is there was nothing to see on the display, asking for me to log in... no errors like before.

Log is filled with call traces, looks more like a hardware issue.

understood... just so odd. the 7.0 update was the switch. same hardware... Thank you for looking into the logs. I will continue to figure out what is wrong.

If that is the case maybe check if there is an updated bios/firmware for you motherboard. I got a i9-14900 and had no issue after the upgrade. I know my motherboard (Asus Proart z790 had an update for "The new BIOS includes Intel microcode 0x129 to enhance the stability of Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen processors." somewhere during the summer last year. I'm not sure if my motherboard has this updated firmware are I purchased it in September - I don't know how I can check the current biosversion on a running system so can't check
