January 29, 20251 yr Hello! I recently install an Intel X710 based NIC into my unraid server (Specifically a AOC-STG-i4S X710-DA4) and the drivers included in kernel are from 2019. I checked several posts for others looking for drivers and was told to post here! Link to the latest driver: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18026/24411/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-pcie-40-gigabit-ethernet-network-connections-under-linux.html Link to install instructions: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683362/1-3-1/installing-the-xl710-driver.html These NICs are becoming cheap and plentiful on the used market and can be easily flashed to allow any SFP making them attractive to homelab users.
January 29, 20251 yr Solution LT doesn't use out-of-tree drivers, they will use whatever is the latest Linux in-tree-driver, the one included with the kernel, next release may have a newer driver, because of the newer kernel.
January 29, 20251 yr Author Gotcha, Assumed there was lenience with this since GPU drivers are installed out of tree in a supported manner.
January 29, 20251 yr That's a plugin maintained by the author, that could be an option if someone were to create a plugin for that, LT did use out-of-tree drivers a few years ago, including some Intel NIC drivers IIRC, but they were a nightmare to maintain, sometimes they build with a release, but not the next one, so they gave that up.
