February 2, 20251 yr So I can't access the SMB share by navigating to \\TOWER. and my PC returns an error of 0x80070035, Network path was not found. Typing my server's IP in the explorer address bar (\\192.168.1.129) navigates to it quickly, and without issues. My first thought was that it was a DNS issue. It's weird though, because pi-hole is my DNS, and it's running on the tower. It shouldn't be network discovery with my PC, because I can directly access the SMB share via IP. I've seen similar situations to this in the forums, but I couldn't find a fix. Suggestions? Edited February 2, 20251 yr by K_Allen78
February 2, 20251 yr Community Expert No real suggestions. But let me say that about a month (or so) ago, I could get in using the \\{server-name} but not with \\{IP-Address}. Today, I could get in either way. In fact, I had four tabs open in the new tabbed Windows File Explorer/Manager to both of my servers using both ways. (I was verifying what I would post up here before I did write this post. (I was actually expecting to have the reverse problem from yours!) Do you have your server setup with a Static IP address? If so, simply use the IP address rather then the server name. I don't think pi-hole would have any problem setting it up that way.
February 2, 20251 yr Author I appreciate it. Yup, I have a static IP assigned to the server, and I can navigate to it. It just bothers me because I can't make sense of it.
