Flash/USB Drive Corrupt - lost all data HELP

Featured Replies

Hello out there.  I'm in need of some help.  Before I modify or change anything I want to run this by the Community.

USB Flash drive is not working, being recognized by multiple OSs and ports.  I don't have a recent COMPLETE back up of the drive.  I just changed to 5.012a.

I'm reading through the the forums posts of old while asking for your help.

What have you done to rememdy this when this happend?  The array is in tact with all my data.

Any suggestions or pointers?  I would try to recover the drive but Lexar gave me an RMA and said send it to them.

Thanks in advance.

OK, step one.. DON'T PANIC!

Your data is safe.

Assuming you have a paid version... Get a new Flashdrive and get a replacement license.

This is just a rough idea what you will have to do. it is not a guide..

once you get a new key, you can start recreating your array.

add the drives to your array, once you find the one that is unformatted, that is your parity drive. now you will have to weed out the cache drive if you had one. dont start the array until you are sure your drives are all correct. if more then one drive is "unformatted", STOP! seek help.

Next, recreate your user accounts.

Next recreate your shares, it will try and make your shares for you based on root-level folder names. you will have to reset all the security.

next, add all of your addons and extras.

anywho.. sorry that happened. but it is recoverable. just relax and be patient. you might have to ~gasp~ use actual DVD's for the next few days for entertainment...

I have one unformatted drive.  What do I do?

Did you get a new flash? Does it need a key? Are all of the drives assigned as data drives? The the unformatted one is the parity drive.

I would guess the one unformatted is the parity..

we are sort of guessing at what you have.

perhaps a breakdown of what unraid version you have, what hardware you have, the number of drives you have, drive sizes might help also.... I'm more of a psycho then a psychic.

Edit:

In looking though your  old posts, you have a lot of power issues. a few fried drives, a fried USB or 2?  just to name a few.  With summer approaching and A/C's running, it will get worse. I would defiantly get a UPS for your system.

Thanks.  I have one unformatted drive and it's not parity.  It looks like disk 1.  I had hardware problems, Southern California blackout last October cooked some hardware among a few other problems.  Since then I pretty much upgraded everything with the exception of a few 400G drives.  I've got the same case with a new GS650W Cosair PS, SM X9SCM-F, 8G Ram, i3 and M1015s.  UPS is in the rack is a refurb SU1000.

I've attached an old syslog that reflects everything except the controllers.

Thanks

syslog.txt

The parity drive will show up as unformatted if assigned as a data drive.

I put the drives in the same order as they were previously based on the syslog. Assuming the drives are in the correct slots why would one be unformatted?

When I select the drive to be formatted and select format the GUI cycles for a bit and fails to format.

Thanks
