MCE hardware errors, and NGINX limiting requests

Featured Replies

Fix Common Problems suggests posting here about the MCE errors, I've attached diagnostics.  The relevant portion appears to be:

Feb  8 13:48:10 Xena kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
Feb  8 13:48:10 Xena kernel: microcode: CPU26: new patch_level=0x0a20102d

Feb  8 13:48:10 Xena kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: PROCESSOR 2:a20f10 TIME 1739051249 SOCKET 0 APIC 8 microcode a20102d

I am also getting a bunch of these nginx limiting requests errors.  The IP in question is a Windows PC.  They all look like this:

Feb  8 14:13:38 Xena nginx: 2025/02/08 14:13:38 [error] 14403#14403: *5609 limiting requests, excess: 20.317 by zone "authlimit", client: 100.124.191.100, server: , request: "PROPFIND /login HTTP/1.1", host: "xena"

And lastly I just had an unclean shutdown of unknown origin, which caused me to look at these logs in the first place.  I went to the syslog server and it says it is enabled, but the 'local syslog folder' is blank.  Do I need to set this up further, or where are these being stored?  The option to copy to flash on shutdown is enabled, but I am assuming that is for clean shutdowns?

Have you set the syslog server up correctly?  You need to either set the mirror to flash option, or put your Unraid servers address into them remote Server filed as mentioned in the online documentation.   If you are not sure post s screenshot of your settings so we can.check them.

I ran 4 passes of memtest without error.  However, there is a wrinkle in that I was not able to select memtest, or any other option, on the UNRAID boot screen.  The countdown begins, and then if I hit the down key, it freezes and stops the countdown, but the selector does not move.  I tried hitting enter on other options (thinking maybe it was just the highlighter that wasn't moving) but that did nothing.  I had to power off and restart.  The server does boot normally if i just do nothing, and I can also reboot in safe mode if I select that option from the GUI.

Is this a flash drive or config issue?  I don't have any logs as this is before the system even boots.  And do you have any other ideas about the MCE errors?

I have the syslog up and logging, thank you.

So I had another unexplained unclean shutdown a couple hours ago, and nothing was captured in the syslog that I can see.  A disk spun down, and then 20 minutes later it is logging a startup.  I am connected to a UPS, so a loss of power shouldn't be the issue.  Is this a problem with the CPU?  I've attached the syslog.
