unRAID doesn't always boot up, frustrating when updating or making hardware changes

Featured Replies

Hey guys, running into an issue that appears to not be an uncommon one, where unRAId will not boot up from the flash drive. unRAID even recommends to use another USB slot on your machine in case it happens. This will ***sometimes*** work for me, but not always and I'm stuck playing musical chairs moving the stick around only to find it will start working on the port it wasn't working on 15 mins ago. I am using a USB 3.0 drive, but would that be the issue if, again it starts to work again after moving it around a few times, sometimes even the same port it wasn't working on previously?

This honestly wouldn't be that big of an issue if it weren't for the fact that I've recently been turning it on/off for drive swaps or installing new hardware which understandably shouldn't happen very often but my concern is when, not if, I eventually get a power outage and have to restart the thing. My CCTV VM is housed on the thing and want it to come back up without issues afterwards without my having to move the USB around a few times.

I'm running this on this USB stick using an ASRock B760M-HDV/M.2 D4 MOBO if it matters.

unraid prefers to run in a usb 2.0 slot. I would try that first even if your flash drive is 3.0 ...

Try disabling "Fast boot" or similar in the board BIOS.
