Cache SSD File System Type vfat - can't format or change FS Type

Featured Replies

tower-diagnostics-20250209-2025.zipI'm trying to mount my SSD as my cache. However, I keep getting the error: Unmountable: wrong or no file system type. It is stuck as vfat FS type. I stop the array, try changing the file system type to auto, btrfs, or xfs but none of it sticks. When I try formatting, it says it starts formatting but quickly stops and says the unmountable error.

Edit: Solved with an earlier forum help topic.

I'm having this same issue but with a Sata HDD drive with vfat file system. - What resolved this issue? I'm not sure how to use the tower diagnostics  zip folders. I'm totally new to Nas and unraid. Getting my feet wet before jumping in with a larger system. Thanks for any help.

The word diagnostics in your post and my post and wherever it appears in the forum is a link that explains how to get diagnostics.

It is a single zip file. Post it as that single zip file.

to see what I am having a problem with.

Stop the array, click on the pool, click "erase pool", then click "remove pool", back on main, re-add a pool with the same name, assign the device, and now it should format.
