Mover Has Stopped Working

Featured Replies

I am running Unraid 7.0 and today I have found that the mover has stopped working.

It's configured to run every hour, but instead my Cache disk is filling up.

I've tried to manually start it, but after clicking start I don't any notification that it is running

Please find attached diagnostic file

Try removing the mover tuning plugin and then see if it works.

  • Author

I have just tried that and it had no effect.

Enable the mover logging, run the mover, post new diags, together with the share name(s) you expect to be moved.

Make sure you have the correct one installed, I made the mistake of installing the outdated one.

There are currently 2 plugins called **Mover Tuning** in the **Community Apps**. The correct version to install has the authors: **Andrew Zawadzki, hugenbdd, and Reynald**, the incorrect plugin has the authors: **Andrew Zawadzki Modified by hugenbdd**.

Thank you, about 30 minutes ago I noticed mover had stopped working for me and I checked which version I had installed and it was indeed the outdated one. Replaced it with the correct one and mover has now sprung into action again. >:D

Glad you got it sorted! This tripped me up as well.

It seems I spoke to quickly about Mover working again. Whilst switching to the updated version of the plugin made the Mover button look like it was now doing something it is in fact doing nothing, all files are still in the same place. I shall continue my investigations and staring contest with it to see if it dares to ever do anything again.

I have deleted the mover plugin and enabled mover logging.

However I can't start the mover, if I press "Move Now" I don't receive the normal message that the mover is running & files don't not move from my cache drive

After a deleted the plugin I have not yet rebooted the server, would this be a good idea?

If the mover is not moving anything, it will stop immediately, rebooting should not change anything,

Mine is also not working anymore.

Mover won't move duplicate files, you need to delete one of the copies, there are multiple entries like this for this share.

FLAC Music doesn't have anything on the pool to be moved:

# Share exists on disk1, disk2, disk7, disk9, disk11

Same for Dowloads:

# Share exists on disk1, disk2, disk3, disk4, disk5, disk6, disk7, disk8, disk9, disk10, disk11, disk12, disk14, disk15, disk16

Thank you, I have now deleted these 2 duplicate files from my cache drive

I'll monitor how I get on.

After reading through the last few pages of the Mover Tuning main thread it's clear to see that some issues popped up since the Unraid 7.0.0 update.
Normally I don't do software updates very quickly, i've been burned a few times before and was going to let this Unraid update settle down until the next one came along but then came the Big Scary Message in the Unraid newsletter about the Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure stuff so I decided then to give it a go. I really should listen to myself sometimes though after having had to spend a few hours messing around last night and today fixing my Unraid setup.

Anyway, armed with a bit of new knowledge from this forum I decided that the Mover Tuner stuff has clearly become a bit alpha-level status with everyone poking around in it's code, quickly jamming it back together again along with the various feature requests of some people, so I uninstalled Mover Tuner, closed all the dockers and VMs down, took the array offline and rebooted it. I started everything back up, gave it a few minutes to settle down and let my finger press the Move button on the Unraid main page.

I'm happy to report that the standard mover part is now doing it's thing again as it should, my cache drive has regained back all it's space.
I think I shall just leave it at that, no need for any other add-ons that might go *pop* again one day.

I'd like to thank all the people of this forum who take the time to post helpful messages, they help the picture of the solution(s) load into my slightly messed-up brain :D

uninstall that one and try the latest patched version manually by pasting this address into the manual plugin install page. you will probably need to reconfigure it, so keep in mind the default setting is test mode, which is a dry run where nothing is actually moved, so do that first to check the log output makes sense, then change that setting and let it run.

You have shares with spaces in their names which are broken on the version you have, the fork i've linked to fixes that.

I did, but it still didn't work.

so what are you trying to do and what are you expecting to see?

you have some shares that are cache only so no mover to be done there, and some that are cached but with a threshold at 95% that hasn’t been met, then you have some shares that dont use cache at all so again, no mover to be done.

Also if you have the space for it, it is best not to try to run the mover on Appdata, keep that as Cache only for speed and to avoid the change of issues with your containers. it also cant move files that are in use, so it may over-fill regardless of your settings if a container is mis-configured.

I just found out today that my cache is full and that my mover isn't working either.

Has anyone found a fix, I've tried uninstalling CA Mover Tuner.

The standard mover says:

Mover is running

But, it's not actually moving anything.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with this same issue.

I hope it gets fixed soon.

The standard mover says:

Enable the mover logging, run the mover, post the diagnostics and the name of the shares you expected to be moved.

You have posted the syslog - not the full diagnostics zip file which contains a lot more information about how things are set up.

Sorry, I think I figured this out, updated post.  Thank you!
