February 12, 20251 yr Hi everyone, I'm having trouble formatting an NVMe SSD in Unraid. I recently installed a Samsung 980 Pro 500GB SSD into my server, which previously had Ubuntu installed on it. I added it to a new pool in Unraid, but it shows up as Unmountable disk present with the following details: Quote Unmountable disk present: Ssd • Samsung_SSD_980_PRO_500GB_S5GYNF0W120516F (nvme0n1) Format will create a file system in all Unmountable disks. Yes, I want to do this When I proceed with formatting, Unraid appears to start the process but then immediately reverts back to the same state, showing the Format option again. The drive remains unmountable. Since the SSD is in a location that is difficult to physically access, I would prefer to resolve this through Unraid directly rather than removing and wiping it externally. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any suggestions on how to force the format or clear any remnants from the previous Ubuntu installation? Thanks in advance! unraid-diagnostics-20250212-1201.zip
February 12, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution It's a bug with v7, stop the array, click the pool device, then "erase pool", then "remove pool", back on main add a new pool with the same name, reassign the device, start the array, and it should now format.
August 20, 2025Aug 20 thankyou, saved dismantling my ugreen. going to utilise the os nvme as i have no intention of utilsing UGOS
August 28, 2025Aug 28 I'm running 7.1.4 and this does not work for me :( The NVME disk gets through all the smart tests just fine and I can assign it to the new pool but I always get the error that it is unmountable. If I can't add disks, then Unraid isn't doing me any good.
August 28, 2025Aug 28 Community Expert Have you tried wiping any existing file system on the drive in case there is one already there that is confusing things.
