Can I "cheat" split level?

Featured Replies

I am in the following situation.

Normally, my split levels are set to 1 or 2.

WITHIN one of the shares with split level two, I have TOSEC collection.

Now for everyone that knows TOSEC, knows it is HUGE.

It is split in brands then models then has more subfolders.

An example:

\\Quasar-ultimate\EMU\TOSEC\ROMS\Commodore\Amiga CDTV\Applications

Now, in the same EMU share, I also have my emulators (inc. MAME) and in general, things that split level is not only enough, but is already the deepest I can go without making the system handle very large subfolder numbers for split (and potentially crash - as we know happens when RAM goes full).

BUT (returning to TOSEC), I really need to split TOSEC deeper (esp. since I loose at least three folders, namely EMU, TOSEC and ROMS, without any real classification). I need for example (using the above) to be able to have some Amiga CDTV folders (like "Applications" folder above) in a disk and others in other.

I don't expect the system to do it (I won't ask for any weird split level scheme that understands exceptions etc.), but if *I* do it manually, will the system work ok?

Will I still see the sum of everything when I see my user folders?

There should be no crash danger unless you have really massive directories (100,000 or more objects).

Yes.

Yes.

Off topic- did you ever get the Greek language issue sorted out?

Not yet - since I already moved my data and now most work is done over the shares, I haven't met the problem face 2 face for the last few days.

Still, if I try to read such files on unRAID concole, it is an experience:

Think trying to enter such a folder or open such a file. :)

...if I read those folders in MC, I get E?E?E?E?E? instead if the (possible) escape codes above...

I will look deeper when I can.
