February 13, 20251 yr How can I remove a spare from my ZFS pool before upgrading? Is it as simple as doing it in the gui and removing the drive so the spare slot is empty? Or is there a command I have to run from terminal to do it?
February 14, 20251 yr Community Expert You can type (with the array running) zpool remove <pool name> <device> The reimport the pool without the spare: on main click on the first device for that pool and then "remove pool" back on main, create a new pool with the same name and correct number of slots assign the pool device(s), leave the filesystem set to auto start the array to import the pool
February 14, 20251 yr Author I had already removed the spare from the pool, however now, following your instructions, when I click on the first device in the pool the option to remove pool is not available? I do see in the GUI an option to upgrade the pool, should I do that? Edited February 14, 20251 yr by ashman70

It may not be in earlier betas, you can delete the pool cfg file from /config/pools/<pool name>.cfg, then reboot and re-import the pool
February 14, 20251 yr Author When I went into the cfg directory on the flash drive and then into the pools directory, there was a spare.cfg file. I deleted that and then rebooted and now the spare is gone, am going to try and upgrade to 7.0 final now. Thanks for all your help. Upgrade worked perfectly, all is good.
