Issues Binding WiFi and NVMe Cards to VFIO - Server Crashes on Array Start

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering a problem when trying to bind my WiFi and NVMe cards to VFIO on Unraid in order to set up an OPNSense VM. The goal is to assign the WiFi card to the VM, but after binding the cards and rebooting the server, it crashes or reboots when I try to start the array.

Problem Details:

I can successfully bind the WiFi and NVMe cards to VFIO, but after rebooting the server (when the array is started), the server either crashes or reboots.

To work around this, I have to manually remove the bound devices from the USB stick configuration. After doing this and restarting the server, everything works as expected.

When the WiFi or NVMe card is bound, I cannot access the "System Devices" settings, as clicking on it causes the server to crash.

All other devices bind without any issues, and this problem is specific to the WiFi and NVMe cards.

Additional Information:

Both the WiFi and NVMe cards are in separate IOMMU groups. I’ve also tried enabling "ACS Override," but the problem persists regardless of this setting.

I cannot download the diagnostic file while the WiFi card is bound, as the server crashes when I attempt to do so. However, I can download the diagnostic file after modifying the USB stick configuration (removing the device bindings) and restarting the server.

Once I modify the configuration and restart, I’m able to download the diagnostic file, which I’m attaching here for reference.

Has anyone encountered something similar or have any ideas on what might be causing this? It feels like there may be a resource conflict or a specific setting I may have overlooked.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
