7.0.0 hangs intermittently

Featured Replies

I'm trying to move my server over to new hardware. On the new server I installed unraid 7.0.0, I re-used a motherboard and cpu that I had left over from upgrading my desktop pc, initially I had some issues with hard crashes but that seems to be resolved by switching out the memory for memory that was being used in the desktop.

I installed the OS

created the shares

started moving data over from the old server

installed containers to start taking over the hosting from the old server

It will randomnly hang after running for a few hours. Sometimes it makes it all through the night and other times it will happen again after a few hours. I can't ssh to the server and the WebUI is also not reachable. Forcing a restart works but eventually it locks up again.

I followed the guides to enable the syslog server but I'm not seeing any glaring issues.

Any suggestions on what else to check?

Unfortunately, there's nothing relevant logged, this can also be a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker containers/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one, including the individual docker containers.

Additionally, look in the BIOS for a "Global C-States" or similar setting and disable that to retest, it's been known to be a problem with some boards, with both Intel and AMD CPUs.

Seems to be the same issue I have since patching.

I'm having about the same issue. I upgraded my main server, and then reused the old case/mobo/cpu/ram to build a second server. This second server can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 or 4 hours before almost rebooting itself and never fully rebooting. Likewise logs don't look outrageous, and the RAM cleared a test. That being said the server wont stay up in safe mode or even in the built in memtest it crashes. I would lean hardware but this gear has run 100% rock solid for 3 years which is when I bough it for my first server, so that makes me hesitant to say hardware is the issue.

What further is confusing is I built the machine the 14th, and it ran fine until the 20th when the crashes started happening.

Diagnostic is from this morning after most recent crash, syslog is the active syslog at time of most recent crash. The crash took place at 01:10 while the syslog ends at 00:01.

before almost rebooting itself

Server rebooting by itself is almost always a hardware problem.

I've disabled the global c-states on the motherboard and so far it has been running for over a day which is far longer than before, so fingers crossed
