May 3, 200818 yr This is un-related to the unRAID OS since this happens even without the drive being added to unRAID array. If I put in my new Seagate 250 gig SATA hard drive into one of my 5-in-3 Athena Backplane slots the indicator is always orange (as if the drive is being accessed). I've tried putting this drive into different slots (some connect to the MOBO, some to my SATA 4-Port cards) and it doesn't make a difference. I can remove a card that works fine (green light) and put this one in while in the bios and it still shows orange when obviously nothing could be accessing it. I can add the drive to my unRAID array as a cache drive (that's why I got it) and it seems to work fine (although the light is always orange). What would cause this drive to always show as being active? Could it be a bad hard drive? Maybe it's just not working correctly with the Athena Backplane?
May 3, 200818 yr Unless there is a jumper on the drive,or some software option you can set with hdparm, it sounds as if the drive is "defective" (or rather ... the circuit that lights the indicator is defective, the drive itself probably stores data fine) Joe L.

Thanks for the reply. I'll RMA it and try a different drive then. I like all my lights to be green so I know when a certain drive is being accessed
