February 24, 20251 yr Hi all, this is my first post here. Very new to the community and haven't yet completed my Unraid build. I am seeking advice on support or suggestions for a network card. The motherboard I've purchased has 4 x SATA ports, a 2.5GbE and two PCIe lanes. One of those lanes are occupied by a GPU and the other is an expansion card for an additional 6 x SATA ports. I've read posts on here regarding Thunderbolt to 10GbE hubs and the fact that there's a lack of support for these, however they are mostly old posts with no updates on outcomes. My question is; has more support and compatibility been implemented for various Thunderbolt devices? The only suggestions I've been advised is to "stick with an Intel chip" in regards to the Ethernet ports. I've been looking at the OWC Thunderbolt 3 10G Ethernet Adapter and am wondering if this would work for Unraid. The Thunderbolt chipset is an Intel JHL6540 but the Ethernet chipset is an Aquantia AQC107S. From what I've read, the Linux Kernel version that Unraid uses does have support for Thunderbolt but I've heard mixed things. Does anyone have any experience they can share? Any suggestions or feedback in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
February 24, 20251 yr There's no official Thunderbolt support in Unraid, some things work, others not, so if you want to test make sure it's something you can send back if it doesn't.
