April 19, 201214 yr 55°C, in fact. As soon as I started the preclear, the temp showed as 40°C. Odd thing is, it feels cool to the touch. I have a small fan blowing air on it also. It's an old 250GB 4.5 years out of warranty. Could the temperature sensors be reading the disk incorrectly?

I suspect the temperature sensor is not reporting air temperature, but perhaps the motor temperature. If the drive is working otherwise AND feels cool to the touch, I'd just not worry about it.
