May 4, 200818 yr My current network uses a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I can connect unRaid server here and everything works, except the router bottlenecks my speed. Is it possible to connect the server directly to my PC using a crossover cable? I'm trying to avoid having to buy a gigabit switch. I have 2 Gigabit adapters in my PC. One is integrated, the other is a Netgear GA311 PCI. I would like to wire the server directly to the GA311, and have my router connected to the integrated NIC. I gather to do this I would need to change the network.cfg file on my unRaid flash drive, and possibly configure the GA311 so the two could communicate, but I'm rather dense when it comes to network configs, I really have no idea how to do this, or if it will work. Any ideas?
May 4, 200818 yr Author Thanks. I tried bridging adapters and there was an increase in write speed to the array, albeit a small one. I uploaded 1.06 GB test file to the server with the following results: via 10/100router: 235 seconds via bridged gigabit: 180 seconds Still seems really slow, although it's fast enough to view video feeds.
