Parity swap confusion

Featured Replies

The parity swap procedure seems by and large simple enough. But I'm not sure if it's what I should be doing

Currently I have
Parity - 4TB Disk

Disk 1 - 4TB

Disk 2 - 3TB

Disk 3 - 2TB

I have a new 8TB disk to add to the array. Which will need to go into the parity, with the 4TB disk becoming "Disk 4". The way a parity swap is described doesn't quite explain my scenario as I'm not planning on removing/replacing a data disk.

Am I just overthinking, and should just install the 8TB Disk, assign this to the parity, assign the original 4TB parity disk as a data drive and let it rebuild?

You don't need a parity swap, just upgrade parity first, and when that is complete, you can then add old parity as disk4.
