April 20, 201214 yr I want to install the APCUPS plugin on my newly up and running Unraid server to help protect it from the madness that is a poweroutage. Two part question: First, How do install the plugin? I do not have a plugin folder on the flash so im confused as to where the file goes. Can I access the flash folder on the "Tower" to drop plugins, or do i need to remove the flash drive and plug it into my windows computer? Second, The UPS has the USB cord that is plugged into my Windows pc. Im assuming so that it knows when to shut down properly? Do i leave this plugged into the WIn7 pc or the Unraid system for best results? How do i get it to shut down both systems with only one USB connection? Okay...so that was a multiple part question just two topics. Im not extrememely technical so if someone could explain this to me in the easiest way possible i would appreciate it.
April 20, 201214 yr Install unMENU, and then go to Package Manager, and select, then install, then choose reinstall on reboot. Instructions for installing unMENU are here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2595.0. You won't need to remove your flash drive to do this. I'd plug the USB port into your unRAID box. You can always make backups of your Windows box to unRAID, but probably not the other way as I assume your unRAID box houses more information than your Windows can hold. As far as I know there isn't a way to share the USB connection from a UPS to signal shutdown on multiple machines.
April 20, 201214 yr Or you could use the plugin located here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Plugins and place it in the boot/config/plugins folder.

April 20, 201214 yr Thanks HAVOC, I wasn't aware of that page's existence. Good to know. that will only work on the later beta releases. The unMENU version will work for any release of unRAID. Your choice really. I've never looked at the simple-features install, but it is based on the unMENU script, so odds are it will work. Also, you can install and use the window's version of the apcupsd in client mode on the Windows PC. the apcupsd process on the unRAID server is automatically broadcasting to anything listening on your LAN. The process on the unRAID server will then use the cable from the UPS to learn when power fails. The other PCs on your lan will learn about it from over the LAN. If you do this, make sure your router and switches are also on a UPS, otherwise, the notice cannot be broadcast over the LAN. Joe L.
April 20, 201214 yr As Joe says, when you are on 4.7 or lower you can only use the unmenu package. When on 5beta you van use the plugin from the plugin page or the unmenu package. You won't need Simplefeatures for either to function though. I'd connect the UPS to the Unraid server and configure apcupsd on the server as apcupsd-server. That way you your Windows PC can read the UPS-status. You will have to install apcupsd on that PC too though. What UPS do you have? Is it compatible with apcupsd?
