March 4, 20251 yr Hi, Been a long time since I started my server and now I'm running into an issue where one of the drives is appearing as "unassigned". I checked all the cables and everything is connected. Don't want to start the server and risk losing some important data. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Cheers
March 4, 20251 yr Community Expert Your screenshot doesn't actually show the Unassigned Devices section. Post a screenshot of that part, and Attach Diagnostics to your NEXT post in this thread.
March 4, 20251 yr Author I don't get what you mean by the Unassigned Devices section. Do you mean this section. I'm specifically referring to "Disk 11" as appearing unassigned. unraid-tower-diagnostics-20250304-1547.zip

March 4, 20251 yr Author So going into Bios is a bit iffy. It's been 7-8 years since I built the server and I'm using extra hardware to get all the drives to show up (couldn't tell you what...it has been that long). The only thing that I see on the bios side are the drives connected directly to the motherboard (so from the mobo sata).
March 5, 20251 yr Community Expert Check connections, SATA and power, including splitters, then see if it shows up. Do any of your other disks show SMART warning ( 👎 ) on the DASHBOARD page?
March 5, 20251 yr Author Nope. None of the sata/power splitter or anything else is the issue. I even changed the location of the drive to see if that would help. And none of the other drives show any smart warnings on the dashboard page.
March 5, 20251 yr Author I have started the array but it is just frozen on "Mounting disks". It's trying to mount "Disk 1" but is just stuck doing that. I've uploaded the new diagnostics -- but am not sure if anything is going to change. unraid-tower-diagnostics-20250304-2354.zip
March 5, 20251 yr Community Expert Read errors from parity, check replace/cables for that disk and try again.
March 5, 20251 yr Author Here you go. These are with the array attempting to start but being stuck mounting Disk 1. unraid-tower-diagnostics-20250305-1013.zip

March 5, 20251 yr Author "Read errors from parity, check replace/cables for that disk and try again" I don't follow what you mean by that.
March 5, 20251 yr Community Expert There are read errors with the parity disk, check/replace its cables, and post new diags after array start.
March 5, 20251 yr Author Yup I guess that cable went bad. Posting new diagnostic now. unraid-tower-diagnostics-20250305-1026.zip
March 5, 20251 yr Community Expert How are these large number of disks powered? Any splitters? More than 4 disks per PSU cable?
March 5, 20251 yr Author No not really. I had the server running fine for around 6 years. Then for the past 1.5 years it was just sitting unused (moving houses) -- and now this.

March 5, 20251 yr Author Alright I think I'm getting this...a bit. Now I have Disk 5 operational but disk 13 is acting up. Going to change some cables for that.
