April 21, 201214 yr Please, what exactly happens with non precleard hdd (full of personal data/windows formatted) if you add it to the array and start the array!?! (i never clicked format or any similar button) There were no parity disk just one already unRAID precleard / formatted disk1 and then the mentioned one i added thought it's needed prior to transfer it's content to disk1... And just after I saw Joe's post about transferring from internal drive with warning not to assign... it was to late... Now my drive is unrecognisable by my lap top... it is inaccessible for most format recovery software. I found some photos with one of data rescue programs but finally i stopped scan process to not mess up more i did already... Which way to go?! What actually happened here? Thanks
April 21, 201214 yr Basically, the MBR was over written. If you know how it was partitioned before then you could repeat that again and the data might just re-appear. If not, the proper partition would allow recovery software to work better.
April 24, 201214 yr Author thanks for your time! sorry for not writing, we got a baby so i was bit lost last thing i'we been watching was this forum... think there are some solutions too... http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/229699-14-erased-partition-external-hard-drive-mistake-help i will write asap i get some time and results! in the meanwhile my hdd is on ice!
April 29, 201214 yr Author so, i'm back! with all my data!!! as i'm not too technical, i used 3rd party recovery software for complete scan of my HDD, it found my partition and one more which i had to delete to be able to recovery good one... it took aprox 16h to scan, 16 more to make image file to another hdd before i make more stupid actions, after successful recovery it took again 20 and some hour to copy data from one hdd to the other (both attached by usb)... i think avira made the process slower this time... i also copied all of my data from lap-top to the same hdd and now i'll try again to copy all that to the unRAID attached hdd... this was the point where i screwed with attaching data hdd to array... as Joe L. said: "Never assign ANY disk to unRAID unless it is ready to be re-used/re-partitioned/formatted." Thanks Joe, thanks lionelhutz!
