Unraid not detecting 2 x 20TB WD hard drives

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm trying to setup my NAS server. I bought 6 x 20TB WD hard drives. 4 of them detects with no issues, the last 2 will not. I've tried swapping the SATA power and data cables around with the drives that work. I confirmed I have enough power. I plugged the 2 hard drives into my server and it works. I don't know why it's not working with Unraid. All hard drives are brand new, I already checked the drives for errors. I've checked everything: SATA power/data and hard drives, can someone please help! Thank you

Can you see the drives in BIOS?

Typically SATA ports 5 and 6 get disabled when you populate other PCIe lanes such as using an NVME drive in the M.2 slot(s). Thats why it's important to check the BIOS can see all the hardware connected. If they don't show up in the BIOS, the SATA ports 5-6 are disabled.

However if you have an extra M.2 slot, pick up a ASMedia 1166 6-port M.2 to SATA controller (no need for a power hungry HBA for a few extra HDDs) These are the same chips that are part of motherboard chipsets. It's just like adding an extra one through PCIe.
