March 10, 20251 yr Hello everyone, At midnight unRAID started doing parity check and I was looking at it how it was going and I saw that not great. ETA ranges from under one day to 550+ days. Speeds are 150mbps+ to 0.00kbs. With this exact configuration I did (in the past) 2 more parity checks and they were both at 23-24 hours start to finish. Same HDDs, connected to the same sata ports with the same cables, everything was the same in the past as it is now except unRAID version because I updated to 7.0.0 and later to 7.0.1. This is how it is going so far: And this is my history with my current setup: (on the parity sync - that's where I added 2x12TB drives and replaced the parity drive from 10TB to 12TB) I have downloaded from App store Diskspeed and proceeded to thest the HDDs in my system and the results are ok. They all pass the SMART tests, all show as expected speeds and when downloading something from the array the speeds are ok and consistent. What did happen one day prior to this parity check was one of my HDD going into read-only, reading here I saw that it might be due to RAM errors and by doing a reboot it should go back to normal, so I did reboot and everything went back to normal. Now it seems that the same HDD isn't acting properly (it is used solely for qbittorrent and not part of the array) as downloading something to it through qbittorrent results in errors in qbittorrent but copying something for example file-a.extension to file-a.copy.extension through the Terminal, the operation succeeds and the file isn't corrupted. This is the only thing that stands out to me compared to past parity syncs and I thought about mentioning it just in case. As for specs: All HDDs are second hand HGST drives, 6x10TB and 2x12TB. Can't properly remember how they are connected but some of them are connected to the SATA ports of the motherboard and some are connected to this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005653706057.html M.2 NVME PCI-E PCIE X4 X8 X16 To 6 Port 3.0 SATA Adapter Card Riser III 6GB/S Chassis server PC Expansion+6PCS 3.0 SATA CABLE The motherboard is this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006399864817.html - The Intel N100 one - Topton Intel N100 6-Bay NAS Motherboard 6*SATA3.0 2*M.2 NVMe 4*2.5G Nics 1*PCIE X1 1*DDR5 Low Power Firewall ITX Mainboard And Crucial DDR5 4800MHz Memory from Amazon (so hoping not a knock-off) As for PSU: Corsair RM650x tl;dr - slow parity check speeds, one drive going into read-only - trying to figure out where to look as to what is causing these issues. March 10, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution Connection problems with disk2. 38 minutes ago, lexuu said: one of my HDD going into read-only, reading here I saw that it might be due to RAM errors and by doing a reboot it should go back to normal That seems like particularly bad advice, or maybe a very bad paraphrase of whatever that advice was. If you truly have RAM errors, you shouldn't even be attempting to run your server. Everything goes through RAM, the OS and other executable code, YOUR DATA, everything. The CPU can't do anything with anything until it is loaded into RAM. memtest is on the boot menu.

Thank you, I saw that disk2 started to not always report temperature while in the Main tab in unRAID web ui after posting this. Regarding the RAM part, I found the post - I will take the server offline and run a memtest and while at this look at the cables for disk2.

March 11, 20251 yr Author Ok so memtest says no RAM problems, ran it for about 8 hours. I've checked all the cables and replaced the ones for the drives that had problems, disk2 and the one named qbittorrent. I'll order another m2 sata expansion card to have on hand, but it'll take time to arrive. I'll also order cables for the drives to have on hand for future issues. But in the end, I guess it might just be a bad HDD. Looking back at the serial tags and when I purchased them, disk2 in this case will be one year old in April, so it might just be a drive on its last leg. I will also let all the drives run a full smart scan maybe it will help by pointing to a bad drive, maybe not. Worth a try.
