Previous stable "backup" system now not so stable after Arc A310...

Featured Replies

Was looking to see if anyone had any insight to what I am experiencing.

A little back story...

I Purchased an Arc A310 (Sparkle Eco) with the intention of testing its transcode performance in Plex and Tdarr long story short I am looking to change my main server to the Threadripper 7000 platform and want to get that side of things figured out now. My backup server turns on 2 days a week to backup new files then powers off... nothing more. It has always been a 100% stable setup, never had to do anything to it other then plugin / docker / unraid updates if I want to. So I figured I can use my backup server for that purpose of testing and not mess with the main server.

i installed the card, booted up like normal and right away the A310 is showing up and ready to be used. installed a plex docker for testing and did so that night (last week) I shut it down and left the card in the chassis for now.

Fast forward to last night, automated bootup and then shutdown (informed via notifications) however I see via home assistant that the backup server is still pulling ~160w (normal full power) I log into KVM and see unraid was working on shutting down, but never did. Had to do a hard shutdown. Boot back up and it was an unusually long time before I can log in (5 min after it displays the ip + log in via command line) once I logged in the array take a substantial time to start as well. shutdown / reboot ends up with the same result of never actually completing the shutdown process. I updated to the latest version of unraid, no change. right away I noticed something new... in system devices, the iGPU on my processor shows up with 3 devices. never seen that before.

I removed the A310 and booted, 100% normal boot up time, operation and shutdown, however the iGPU still shows up as 3 devices. is this my issue?

Either way, install the A310... back to long bootup and array start and will not shut down normally.

I included the diag data... not sure what to do here. I know having the A310 installed causes my issues... however I know that should not be. I also know the iGPU should not show up as 3 devices either (my main server 13900K does not show the iGPU 3 times... just once.

Only thing I have not done is updated the Bios (if there is one) checking now and will update if there is one.

Thanks in advance!

On who do we pin the responsibility for installing sr-iov? Raccons, ghost or aliens?^^

But thats not your issue. Although removing sr-iov might be worth giving a shot, since it brings it own drivers

Well that was a silly rabbit hole...  went after updating the bios and then the computer would not POST.... solid black screen. removed the bios battery, RAM and Re-seated the HBA + 10GB NIC.... put all back in and boots fine and now I am back to 1 iGPU device listed. install the A310.. and everything is fine now. WTF. I have to assume something with the Bios update and re-seating everything was responsible.
