7.0.1 New disk disabled and emulated after rebuilding

I have replaced some drives in my array and shrunk it to remove some of the old smaller capacity disks, since then the new drives have been fine until after the final parity rebuild where now one of the new drives is showing as disk disabled and emulated. Attached is also the SMART test result for disk3 the one in question.

 

Any ideas why this would be happening, it is a new drive with new cables.

Disk has many pending sectors and failed the SMART test, so it needs to be replaced.

Any idea why this would happen as the drive is brand new

Disks can just fail, and typically, they fail when new or only after many years of usage, google HDD bathtub curve:
