March 15, 20251 yr Hi everyone. I definitely need help but I'm sick and may be slower to respond. I'm Currently on unraid 6.12.13. My setup has 2 parity disks and 11 data disks. A few days ago, Parity disk 1 (ST16000NE000-3UN101_ZVTEF25Z - 16 TB) was disabled with a few (unknown to me) errors and Data disk 6 (TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_Z56P0UWGS - 3TB) started having reallocated sector errors. All of this around the time of the last scheduled parity check. I had a spare drive plugged in and unused (WDC_WD40EZRZ-22GXCB0_WD-WCC7K5EX8FEV - 4TB) so I decided to replace and rebuild data disk 6. Here's what happened next. - I confirmed my important items were backed up elsewhere. - I downloaded the diagnostics before shutting down. - I stopped the array, unassigned disk 6, and then shut down the array. - I physically removed disk 6 from the array. - I powered back on and once logged into unraid I saw that disk 11 (WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WMC4N1894469 - 3 TB) had become "missing" - There were no clear signs of the drive failing before shutting down and I did not touch it while inside the case however thinking I might have moved something out of place while in there I shutdown again and reseated the power/data cables. - Reseating the cables did not help, I then went through several variations of different power/data cables to no avail. - I then placed disk 11 in an external dock, connected it to unraid and was able to get the disk to be seen again and assigned. - Disk 6 is "missing" since it was removed from the array. Disk 11 is seen but cannot be mounted or read. - The last smart report for disk 11 seems good but I do hear clicking coming from the drive. It might have been on its way out but the noise was masked by the other drives. - My current situation is Parity disk 1 is disabled for unknown reasons, data disk 6 is physically out of the array, data disk 11 is in the array but shows as unmountable. I'm adding a screenshot for the visual ones out there (like me) My question - Is there any way to save this? My thoughts - Could I somehow enable the parity disk again and rebuild one of the data disks? I'm not clear why one of my parity drives was disabled either. The only issue I see is a high Raw Read Error value but I've never been too concerned with that stat when monitoring drives. viento-diagnostics-20250314-1531.zip
March 15, 20251 yr Community Expert Syslog rotated, and due to a bug that can disable an extra disk, make sure you updated now to 6.12.15, reboot, and post new diags after array start, assuming the unmountable filesystems can be fixed, you may be able to recover most of the data, maybe even everything.
March 23, 20251 yr Author Hi JorgeB, Thanks for the info, I just updated but the array won't start due to invalid configuration. Two data disks are still missing. I'm attaching the new diagnostics anyway. I was hoping there might be a way to enable the 1st parity drive again so I could rebuild both disks but before shutting down I noticed a a lot of writes to some of the data drives+remaining parity, not sure what that could have been from but it means that the parity on the disabled drive is now invalid, right? Is there a way for me to use New Config to enable the disabled parity drive again and try to rebuild my data disks anyway? I would assume that whatever those writes to data disks/parity drive from before would end up as corrupted data, but I'm not sure what it even was so I'm willing to take the risk if it's even possible. Let me know if I should just give up and start from scratch. Like I mentioned before, the important data was already backed up. Any guidance helps. viento-diagnostics-20250323-1659.zip
March 24, 20251 yr Community Expert Array cannot be started because now disk11 is missing, what happened to that disk? Does it show up in the BIOS?
