March 15, 20251 yr Ive had my unraid server for years, i havent changed a single thing but today i started noticing a strange smb error: access_mask_fsp: Access denied on file to anything i browse on the shares from unraid, yet i can access everything as normal, i haven't noticed any issues only that the syslog is spammed with this error. Server has been error free for years, running Version: 6.11.5 , unraid is not exposed to the public internet, and i have not changed any settings with either SMB or any of my shares. I did the most obvious thing and tried to reboot, that didn't help, still getting these errors. Is it so that windows update can have caused an update to the clients samba making it cause this issue with the older unraid smb versions? I have tried 3 different windows machines and all seem to cause the error to appear in the log. Any ideas would be welcome, thank you Mar 15 19:04:03 NAS smbd[26342]: smbd_calculate_access_mask_fsp: Access denied on file Media/Test/SharedFile.mp4: rejected by share access mask[0x001F00A9] orig[0x0012019F] mapped[0x0012019F] reject[0x00000116]
March 15, 20251 yr Author Solution Interesting, i noticed that my Recycle Bin had stopped working after the most recent update, and it seems after fiddling around with it and eventually removing it, adding and old plg version back, then upgrading to the latest version, both the recycle bin started working and the smbd_calculate_access_mask_fsp disappeared as well. I see that recycle bin is somewhat related to SMB so it must have been the cause to the error, i saw on my log server that the SMB error actually started exactly a week ago but i don't look at my logs so often so i didn't see it until today, it seems to have started when i updated the recycle bin plugin that day. TLDR: if you find yourself having sudden issues with "smbd_calculate_access_mask_fsp" when accessing media on your unraid server, try re-installing the recycle bin plugin.
