Can a parity disk be removed?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 3/1 array with 3 data and one parity disk. Will the array continue to function if I remove the parity disk?

Yes, you just won't have any parity protection. You'll have to do tools->new config and reassign all the drives except the parity to remove it from the array.

I think it's implied in your answer, that after reassigning the drives, the existing shares and data will once again be accessible, is it not?

Thanks for your assistance!

You should be able to simply unassigned the parity drive and then start the array without it.

OK, thanks for replying. I'm not about to attempt it, the information is for future reference if I decide to run the server without a parity disk.
