USB failed, no backup... any way to recover docker containers?

Featured Replies

I have learnt a lot of lessons over the last 24hrs - don't trust Sandisk, do backup flash drives etc. but unfortunately all have been learned too late.

I have therefore installed a new flash drive and transferred my key. Fortunately I had a very simple setup so was quick to mirror the previous array and the best news was that my Homeassistant VM restored itself as soon as I re-enabled VMs.

However, the same could not be said for my docker containers... Is there any way to recover these or do I have to reinstall and set them all up from scratch again?

Your dockers will still exist assuming your system and appdata shares are still there, but you won't be able to manage them from the Unraid webUI without the templates from flash.

Reinstall exactly as they were installed before and they should resume as they were with their appdata.

Thanks.

If I get a value wrong when re-installing (e.g. port number) will that then overwrite the previous instance, effectively losing it?

  • Community Expert

Probably not losing it, but also not working as expected until fixed.

You should backup your appdata first.

I've actually just managed to get the old flash drive to [temperamentally] read on my Windows PC; is there a folder / file I can transplant from old to new or are we past that point?

I managed to backup the config folder before it lost connection again... hoping that was the right one?

Your docker templates are in config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user

All of your configuration is in the config folder.

You don't want the .key file from the old configuration.

Thanks trurl, appreciate all your support.

So if it replace new flash config folder with old flash config folder (while retaining the .key file from new) will that effectively be a full restore of the old system?

Yes

Amazing! Back as it was 🥰

Thanks again for your support and guidance, really appreciated!

Make sure you backup flash. The Unraid Connect plugin will keep a backup of flash in Unraid Cloud.

You can always manually download a zipped backup of flash from MAIN - Boot Device - flash - FLASH BACKUP

Any significant changes you make in the webUI need to be backed up.
