It's possible to split selected folders?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have 3 huge folders, one on each disk.

Now I've added two other disks.

I would like to have those 3 folders to be split on those 2 disks based on high-water.

So basically this is how I would like to have my folders. I also added a detail for where I would like to have files

disk 1 -> huge folder 1, random folders

                 |_ Weddings 1 -> all files of weddings 1 are on disk 1

disk 2 -> huge folder 2, random folders

disk 3 -> huge folder 3, random folders

disk 4-> huge folder 1,2,3

                 |_ Weddings 2 -> all files of weddings 2 are on disk 4

disk 5 -> huge folder 1,2,3

                 |_ Weddings 3 -> all files of weddings 3 are on disk 5

it's possible to do that? if so, how?

User Shares are simply the combined top level folders on array data disks and pools.

When you create a user share, Unraid creates top level folders on disks or pools, named for the share, as needed in conformance with the settings you make for the share.

Conversely, any top level folder on array data disks or pools is automatically a user share, named for the folder. Any user share you don't make settings for have default settings.

One of the settings for a user share is which array data disks to Include when writing files to the share.

Another setting is Split Level. It keeps files that belong together on the same disk.

Yeah, I wanted to uderstand better the split level.

1) If I set High-water and Split level "manual" what will happen if I create a folder manually on disk4? It will balance it?

2) Otherwise it's possible to apply split level only on some folder?

All share settings only affect new files written. It won't move any files already written. Except for the Mover action with cache, etc.

Tha's fine, I want unraid to balance the new files of those selected folders only, and to place them only the new hard disks.

The old ones will remain in the current disks
