March 29, 20251 yr I think lot of us have installed some common plugins like "Unassigned devices", "Patch plugin", "Fix common problems", ... "A lot of us would agree that some plugins are necessary and should be installed from the beginning of our Unraid journey. The reason is maintenance? I understand that less code is better to maintain. Does the core Unraid team focus more on the core functionality, allowing them to maintain it better, rather than dealing with additional extended functionality provided by plugins? Are there any statistics about installed plugins in active Unraid instances? I have watched some videos (from The Uncast Show) and they said: "... some plugins that I just like and I think are essential for every Unraid server". - https://youtu.be/EHbJKErI6HQ?t=944 source: https://youtu.be/V4DP_cwSfTM?t=535 Thank you for an answer Edited March 29, 20251 yr by bagican

If was rolled into the core then would be max 3/4 updates a year.
March 29, 20251 yr Author Thank you for your answer. Did you consider a more user-friendly UI (perhaps a wizard) that would give users an easy and quick way to install the most essential plugins? For example, when a clean Unraid installation is booted. Edited March 29, 20251 yr by bagican
March 31, 20251 yr Also important is that the majority of plugins, even some that provide what most consider core functionality, are not developed or maintained by Lime Technology. They are independently maintained by community developers. While the most useful and popular plugins are generally maintained by longtime, trusted members of the community, the fact that they are not directly supported or maintained by Limetech is another reason why they are not (and should not) be installed by default.

There are plenty of plugins that are essential enough to consider core functionality. Some really also need to be acquired by Limetech, if for no other reason than to guarantee their longevity. The amount of research needed by any new customer to discover and install many such plugins creates not-insignificant friction affecting the ease of product adoption.
