i just realize that the above setup wont do for a future expansion to a 9-disk server

i also read the prototypes (http://greenleaf-technology.com/blogs/prototypes/index.php?id=1506910883877386396) but all mobos there arent available in belgium

so im looking for a system i can buy in the netherlands-belgium

what mobo should i chose... what case..

need some help thx !

say max for a 9 bay server

  • Author

all those mobos work with unraid?

also,

can i build a micro-atx motherboard in a tower? or do i need a miditower  :-[

  • Author

Still need help here, not much further...

The problem is the choice of mobo-cpu and case

(in europe available) and supporting unraid

  • Author

The sharkoon rebel 9 says it only fits atx boards, no micro-atx?

The fractal design one says it supports both

You sure the micro-atx fits in the sharkoon one?

You say the msi one is a bit overkill, perhaps i should go for the asus then..

but that one only has sata 300 instead of  600, its that a huge difference?

Which cpu should i take with that mobo? (energy efficient please)

How about this setup:

Power: Corsair CX 430 V2

Mobo: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250

Case: Sharkoon rebel 9 economy

RAM: Kingston value 2x2 GB, DDR3, 1333mhz / PC3-10600 - CL9

HDD: 2xWD20EARS

Some questions

1) this ok?

2)energy efficient?

3) whats max size of disk this thing can take care off?

4) compatible with unraid all the way

5) should i go for the wd20earx instead of the ears?

6) power supply ok? (for max size of disks)

Here a review of the rebel9, says it is micro-ATX compatible.

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php/artikel/hardware/gehaeuse/15912-test-sharkoons-rebel9-aluminium-guenstig-und-schick.html

I am no AMD expert, can't tell you what is most energy efficient. Many use the Sempron 145 but I don't know if it can handle the stuff that's gonna run on the server.

As for harddrives, I have had some bad experience with those WD's. Better get some EARX or Seagates or Hitachis.

For advice on a PSU read here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12219.0

The 430 will probably do, but I'd take the 500 to be on the safe side.

are the earx better then? they are cheaper.. whats the difference between them?

anyone else willing to reply to my questions above please?

Looks good.

If you never go above 9 drives the 430 is ok but close to its limit. the 500 V2 would be the better choice.

SATA-600 is backward compatible with SATA-300 so EARX is ok. I saw on tweakers.net the Seagate 2 TB even cheaper.

Have you checked number of SATA-ports on al Motherboards?

Which webshops are there in Vlaanderen to buy this stuff?

9 drives will do :)

Which seagate 2TB ?

The mobo has 6 sata 300 ports so for now its enough to start with

probably going to buy in the netherlands instead of flanders :P

Maybe the 4allshop would be an alternative, at least for the Netherlands the shipment rates are lower.

But they have the motherboard listed wrongly, better contact them about it.
