New Build - Upgrading from 1700x

Featured Replies

I need a new unRAID server and curious to see what you all think about this build. I run various docker containers. Probably 40-50 or so. I also run a small plex server on the server. I already have 10GbE networking and would use the 10GbE port on the motherboard.

My current equipment isn’t cutting it anymore. I currently have an AMD 1700x with 32GB of RAM. I also use a P2000 and would use it in the new build as well. I use an HBA card as well.

What do you think about these specs for a new build? Any changes you all would make? I want something that is reliable and able to power my server for 5 years or so before any upgrades. If I can save money - great, but I mainly care about reliablity and having enough power to last me years into the future.

This is way overkill. But it all depends on what are you going to do with the server...

In my case, I'm running 50+ containers (including Plex) and about 10 VMs with an Intel I5-14500 and 128GB RAM. Everything runs smoothly.

I would throw a 10Gbit NIC into the build instead of Ryzen 9.

Bit late now but I've just put this build together myself. noticed a massive difference in speed in my setup from the 8700k z370 I had before the CPU failed.

However there are no board drivers under 7.1.4 so no onboard NICs or sensors are working.
