unRAID Server Release 5.0-rc1 Available

Recommended Posts

Hey Tom,

Did you widen any IO buffers in the RC?  For the betas my write speed on my WD20EAR(S/X) array across the network was about 20-24MB/s and it was fairly constant.  What I'm seeing now is bursts of fast speed (up to 61MB/s) followed by long lag periods (seconds-minutes) of 0b/s on rc2-test.

The drive and computer that I'm copying the data from has not changed (hasn't even been rebooted) since b14.

Seems very odd.  Please download -rc2 and if problem persists, post in that thread.

I have an issue, but do not believe it is UnRaid related.

My Parity drive died on my, I was able to get it replace, (They sent a remanufactured one in its place.) The drive seams fine in every way, but when I add it to the server, I can NOT get the server to start, it just goes back to the unmounted drives status. As soon as I remove it, the drives will mount just fine. (I am running 5 RC1, and I tried mounting the drive as a data drive as well, and also tried B14.)

I just ordered 3 new 3TB 7200 rpm drives so hopefully I don't ever run into this issue again.

Right now I have 6200 movies, 33000 tv episodes, 21000 songs, and 20000 Karaoke songs, plus lots of other stuff unprotected.

Is there a trick I can try to get this drive to work? I thought maybe the drive size was reduced when it was remanufactured, but that wouldn't stop it from working as a date drive.

Need to see the system log.

Tom, here is the system log for my server. It is huge, so to help you a little, the information should be somewhere around the 20:00 hours mark, give or take a minute.

Thanks for any help you can give. I just upgraded to RC2 a little while ago, and still no luck getting the drive to mount. The drive in question is (sdn)

This might be something for Tom:

May  5 19:53:03 The_Matrix emhttp: writing GPT on disk 0 (sdn) with partition 1 offset 64

May  5 19:53:03 The_Matrix emhttp: shcmd (959): sgdisk -Z /dev/sdn &> /dev/null

May  5 19:53:03 The_Matrix emhttp: _shcmd: shcmd (959): exit status: 1

May  5 19:53:03 The_Matrix emhttp: shcmd (960): sgdisk -o -a 64 -n 1:64:0 /dev/sdn |& logger

May  5 19:53:03 The_Matrix logger: sgdisk: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by sgdisk)

But this is probably why the array will not start:

May  5 19:49:07 The_Matrix emhttp: shcmd (580): mkdir /mnt/disk5

May  5 19:49:07 The_Matrix emhttp: _shcmd: shcmd (580): exit status: 1

repeated here as you attempted to start the array:

May  5 20:02:27 The_Matrix emhttp: shcmd (1716): mkdir /mnt/disk5

May  5 20:02:27 The_Matrix emhttp: _shcmd: shcmd (1716): exit status: 1

and again repeated later here when you attempted to start the array:

May  5 20:16:28 The_Matrix emhttp: shcmd (2246): mkdir /mnt/disk5

May  5 20:16:28 The_Matrix emhttp: _shcmd: shcmd (2246): exit status: 1

In each case, the attempt to create a /mnt/disk5 directory failed.  This can only occur if you've already created that directory OR you've created a file with that name and therefore, you cannot create a directory with the same name.

I'm betting you have a file there as /mnt/disk5 created by one of your add-ons perhaps?

to see, type

ls -ld /mnt/disk5

The output should look a lot like this:

root@Tower:~# ls -ld /mnt/disk5

drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 152 2011-10-14 22:23 /mnt/disk5/

If a file, type:

rm /mnt/disk5

or , if a directory

rmdir /mnt/disk5

as appropriate.  Then you should be able to start the array.

Thank you Joe, I tried your sugestion, and was coming back with 3 root root 2012-5-5 01:53 /ls -ld /mnt/disk5/ or something simalir, and it still would not mount, so I disabled simple features, and it mounted right up after a reboot.

But I now have Parity running for the first time in weeks.

(It is early in the Parity check, but it is running very nicely at 81.83 MB/Sec with 5% complete.)

Thank you so very much Joe.

My 12TB server set up -

Asrock H67M-ITX, i3-2125 CPU, 4GB RAM; (LAN chip is RTL8111E)

    four drives on AOC-SASLP-MV8, remainder on the motherboard;

drives are 6 data x 2TB (WD20EARS green), parity 2TB (WD20EARS green on motherboard), cache 1TB (WD10EADS green on motherboard)

Parity check (corrections disabled) - 6 hrs 25 minutes - same on RC1 and RC2.

Did you tweak the disk settings to get better performance?

If so can you share your settings?
