April 8, 20251 yr I have 1 x 22tb parity and 3 x 22tb data. One data hdd failed and RMAed with Seagate but I don't know when I will get the replacement. I have bought 2 x 28tb Seagate hdd and I was wondering what would happen if I replace the missing 22tb with this?
April 8, 20251 yr Community Expert You cannot have any data drive larger than your smallest parity drive. You can use the Parity Swap procedure to upgrade a parity drive and then use the old parity drive to replace a failed data drive.
April 9, 20251 yr Author Thanks. After the parity data has been copied to the new 28tb hdd can I shut down the server and pull out the old 22tb parity hdd and insert the other 28tb hdd for it to be rebuilt?
April 9, 20251 yr Community Expert Not sure that's been tested. I would just finish rebuilding the data disk onto the old parity. Maybe save that other new disk for later.
