Adding a NVME drive to a new cache device

Featured Replies

I added the NVME and it made it part of the existing ssd cache pool so I shut down the array and used destructive mode UD to delete the drive I then restarted the array and had a deleted drive listed showing 2 slots no option to go back to one. I removed the NVME physically and now I have a cache 2 not installed with a Red Cross device is missing disabled how can I remove it IMG_0526.thumb.jpeg.fb5390bcc0ecdd592fb5fe10019f54ce.jpeg

I assume you want to use just that SSD as a single device pool, if yes, and with the array running type:

btrfs balance start -f -dconvert=single -mconvert=dup /mnt/cache

Once that's done, type:

btrfs dev remove missing /mnt/cache

Now reimport the pool with the remaining device:

on main click on the first device for that pool and then "remove pool"
back on main, create a new pool with the same name and 1 slot
assign the pool device, leave the filesystem set to auto
start the array to import the pool

You missed a '-' before 'dconvert'. Try again.

Better if you don't type and just copy/paste

Sorry, missed your post, post new diags with the array started, but that suggests you didn't run the 2nd command before reimporting the pool.

I will have to wait until the parity check finishes long story short I got a new ATX power supply and the iec cable is intermittently shutting the server down so I have replaced the power cable which fixed the issue but Unraid wants to run a parity check due to unclean shutdown ☹️

There are still dual profiles, so possibly the balance command failed due to some fs issue, run the command below again, and post new diags once it finishes, you can do it while the pariry sync is going on:

btrfs balance start -f -dconvert=single -mconvert=dup /mnt/cache
