Changed HBA - Disks detected by HBA but not UnRaid

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have recently moved from a server tower + DAS setup to an all-in-one rackmount server. With this move I have changed from an LSI 9201-16e (external connectors) to an Adaptec ASR-71605. I have all my HDDs connected via the HBA card and all my SSDs connected directly to motherboard SATA ports. Upon booting into the HBA cards boot menu, I can see all my HDDs detected, but upon entering UnRaid - none of the HBA connected drives are there. All that show up are those connected to the motherboard (my SSDs). Something to note: I've also changed motherboard - Asrock Pro4 B550M to Asus X570-P (for better IOMMU groupings), so there could be some motherboard setting I've missed (have only enabled CSM to get into HBA boot menu).

I've never used Adaptec cards before - Just the LSI. I did see you can make arrays, etc, but I don't want to do something that could compromise the data on these array and parity disks, so thought I would ask for help in here before trying anything.

Thanks

The ASR-71605 is a RAID controller, not a HBA. This means if you configure the drives, they won't show up since the card is holding them hostage. They can be passed through, but you have to set it to either expose RAW, or HBA mode, and of course you have to make sure the latest firmware build 32118 is installed. I have an 8885 which has a newer build firmware, but the option should be somewhere on the second page of controller options. Currently I don't have the controller in a computer, but if you can't find it say so and I'll install it to give better instructions.

Thanks, Wody. It was right there in the menu. Changed from Simple Volume to HBA and all disks have been passed through and UnRaid array is up.
