Destination Folder Access Denied - Windows 11 Pro

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm running into issues copying files from my windows 11 pro to the mapped network drive on unraid. The wired thing is that its random and it stops in the middle of the copying. Once I hit Try Again it works for a while and than does it again. I'm on wired connection. Is windows doing that?

Thanks!

Post the diagnostics after it happens to see if there's something logged.

we have the same problem. I tried to observe the samba logs live on terminal and this line "Bad SMB2" comes up whenever the "destination folder access denied" appears.

After the problem has occurred, open up the GUI terminal and run the following command:

smbstatus

Then do a screenshot of the output and post that up in a new post. (You can redact just the files names if you want...)

The error is related to SMB signing:

Did you add this to SMB extras before or after the issue?

[global]

server signing = auto

Also, does it have the same issue from a different client?

Yes, I have that exactly in the SMB Extras , and checked this morning and my surface does not have this error, so it's my desktop is funky network-wise. That seems to be the end of this for now. Thanks for your time JorgeB

note that with recent windows versions Microsoft forced Signing to ON.

You can turn it off (or to "if possible") again by editing the local security settings on the client.

This is more or less just another try to force people to W11 and to Windows Server/Cloud.

I did try turning all the signing off and using guest, but the problem still persited, so I put it all back on. It's just my wonky pc then. I might get a replacement lan card and see how that goes.

  • Community Expert

unlikely that the lan card change will help in any way.

There is no SMB on the LAN card, its in higher Layers on top of it.

Yeah, I know that, but need to get a 2.5Gb card anyway to work with my new switch, so no harm.

Start reading beginning at this post and the next two posts and make sure that everything is set up as described:

https://forums.unraid.net/topic/191221-some-musings-on-smb-and-samba-and-unraid-and-windows/#findComment-1561581

MS is infamous for changing SMB settings in their monthly updates and not revealing what they have done. (I saw that your Shares--- that I looked at ---are all set to Public which indicates to me that you are trying to have a very simple networking setup. The MS world has moved beyond 'simple' to being 'secure' in its place.)
