NFS security "Public" setting

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just a bit of background here - I'm a windows guy and not familiar with NFS at all.
I purchased an IP CCTV camera, and found after the fact that it can only connect to NFS shares. The problem is the camera settings are very limited - basically all I can specify is a host (IP / Name) and a folder.

I've configured an NFS share on Unraid, and set the setting to public. I want the simplest, least secure, easiest method of connection. However, I'm trying to verify if the NFS share works without the camera  - for peace of mind / verification. The windows guides (and other forum posts) I've found all include finding a GID and UID.
I have no idea how to do that in Unraid, and was kind of hoping I wouldn't need to with security "Public" setting on the share.

My questions are:
What does the Public setting do exactly?
How can I verify a share with no export, set to public, is working - least effort, from a windows machine?
 - is there a NFS browser I can use? A simple command I can run in Ubuntu (I have Windows Subsystem for Linux)?

Start here:

Now the problem is that every Linux distribution is a bit different on what you have to mount it to a NFS server.  You might want to see if there is a forum for that CCTV camera that you have.  Or if there is manufacturer's FAQ site.

If you use Google and put unraid.net as the first parameter in the search, you will get more posts from the Unraid forum with the remaining search terms in them.

To use NFS with Windows, start by Googling    Turn on NFS in windows 11

I don't know if this will help with your problem of getting the camera working as the Windows setup might be completely different from what the camera requires.

Just clarifying - the issue here was that I was trying to setup an NFS share with no export. That and I have no idea how NFS works :)

As soon as that was enabled it all worked as intended.
