5.0 beta 14a - starting array causes crash/hang

Featured Replies

As per title. Playing with this beta on some old hardware:

low end Acer with AMD Sempron and 2 on-board SATA ports/MCP61SM motherboard

2 x Via VT6421 PCI/2 port SATA cards

4 x Maxtor 200Gb

1 x Seagate 160Gb

1 x Hitachi 80Gb

The system has not yet had a Plus license key installed. I want to get it running first with 3 drives.

Setting any 3 drives (with of course 200Gb as parity) then starting the array build results after a couple of minutes in:

- corruption on the console (direct attached monitor)

- loss of ability to ping the machine

- machine's network activity indicator going absolutely crazy

and only a cold boot enables a restart.

All tips appreciated as I've 2 other unraid systems built and running well. This is a third to eat up some old hardware.

Syslog attached. I note that there's no sdd drive.  ???

syslog.txt

i would start with a memory test.

followed by a

tail -f /var/log/syslog

to see if you can see what is failing.

Thanks.

Overnight memory test showed no memory problem.s

tail -f /var/log/syslog can only be done after a hard reboot and as such I only get the info pertaining to that boot.

When the machine hangs, it totally hangs and won't respond to key presses, ctrl-alt-del etc.

All ideas appreciated!
