Swap File on a non-array, non-cache drive.

Featured Replies

I haven't really had the urge to set up a cache drive (standard copies work fine), but I AM getting the urge to set up a centralized XMBC database and a SqueezeBox server on one of my unraid boxes. Can you stick in a drive, not part of the array, not a cache drive, and set it up as a swap file? Put the SqueezeBox and MySQL data out there also? I've got 4gb on the server I'm thinking of using, could upgrade it to 8gb without much effort, do I NEED a swap file in that situation? (about 1,100 movies and 16,000 tv eps. yes you read that right, I didn't add extra zeros) and still have about 1/2 the library to digitize. Music is about 9,000 tracks (those have all been done).

Suggestions? Advice? Anyone else done this?

I put my swap on an SSD drive I auto mount with mount_drives.  It also hosts virtualbox images.  Works fine for me.

I'm using the swap package available via unMENU.
